Surrenders of cats and dogs are made by appointment only!   You must call the Shelter @ (585) 591-3114 and speak with someone BEFORE bringing the animal to the shelter.

Surrender donation fee's start at $50 and will be determined when discussing surrender during intake call.
 

We have limited cage and kennel space and can only accept adoptable animals. You may be placed on a waitlist, if we are unable to intake the animal immediately due to available space and/or resources. If we are able to intake the animal, please bring any and all vet records that you may have. At the intake appointment, all animals will be assessed before admittance to determine their adoptability. Please understand that we do not have on staff vets or behaviorists in the shelter facility to deal with emergencies, critical illness or extreme behaviors.

 
Due to high volume of calls during the busy season, your call may not be returned immediately.  We do our best to return call within 1-2 business days. 
 
Wyoming County SPCA does not euthanize for space or length of time in shelter. As long as the animal has no serious behavior issues or medical problems, they will be kept until they are adopted.
We can only accept a cat if we have cage space. If the cat is extremely sick or injured, we must have the resources lined up in order to accept it. We cannot accept any cat that is in a trap or that is not "touchable." If the stray cat is feral or wild, please call us and we will do our best to help guide you with ideas and resources. If you are planning to trap a stray cat - please only "trap with a plan" in place. Don't trap and then call expecting that there is a quick solution or help for a feral or untouchable cat. If there is a mom with young nursing babies - please do not take the babies away from the mom without a plan. If the babies cannot eat on their own and need to be bottle fed - fosters are needed and required for that, and will need to be lined up!

There will be times of the year when we are at or over capacity and cannot accept any more cats. We are not always able to immediately help everyone who calls, and will need your help and understanding. As adoptions take place, and space frees up we intake from our wait list.

What can you do to help while you wait in the meantime? If you are able, find a place in your home - a spare bedroom, bathroom, basement, shed, porch or garage to keep the cat safe and fed until it can come into the shelter. Take the cat to a vet or low cost vet clinic for basic vaccines, and please consider getting it spayed or neutered. If basic vet care is provided for the cat, it will help to get the cat up for adoption much quicker. Spaying and neutering is the only solution that will prevent more stray cats and the cycle from continuing. Consider volunteering your time at a local shelter or rescue to help, or donate to your local shelter to financially help them be able to continue to take in animals, medically care for them and get them up for adoption. Our costs per animal admitted often include, but are not limited to - spay/neuter, veterinary treatments, vaccinations, microchipping, medications, flea treatments, dewormers, food, and more.  However, we ask pet owners/surrenders for only a fraction of these costs incurred.
